Sumario:Greek tragedy retains in the mesh of dramatic action the archaic forms of religiosity and law as well as the rituals and beliefs of the life off that time. In Sophocles production, and particularly in OT, it has been noticed the intersecting of elements belonging to different stages of the evolution of religious consciousness and legal thought and practica. In this tragedy ordeal has an outstanding presence and there coexists with other more evolved uses and beliefs. This old practice, included in a new context, suffers remodelling and resignification processes; its analysis contributes to enlighten some of the ambiguities and the most problematic zones of the text.
