Sumario: | It is proposed to analyze different samples of fossil and archaeological remains with diverse geographical and stratigraphical locations and with different preservation modes. The chemical and morphological characterization of these remains will allow to better understand the physical-chemical phenomena that degrade the original organic matter. To achieve this objective, modern instrumental techniques of chemical analysis will be used, such as Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Optical Microscopy (OM). The types of samples include compressions, naturally macerated cuticles, cuticles obtained by chemical maceration, archaeological remains and associated coal samples. The differences / similarities amongst the samples analyzed with respect to their chemical composition will be studied by chemical data (FT-IR and EDS) evaluation by chemometrics. This information will contribute to a better understanding of certain physicochemical changes related to the formation of kerogen (oil precursor) and to the diagenesis of the remains studied. The possible paleoenvironmental biomechanical, paleoecophysiological, and chemotaxonomic implications will be evaluated. |
