Sumario:Describe the effect of the native plant from Mendoza, Prosopis strombulifera (Ps) using in vivo and in vitro model in wich it will be analyze the action of the extract on the hypothalamus-pituitary-thyrois axis and as phytoestrogen.LINE OF INVESTIGATION:Basic investigation base on Biology of Reproduction and PhytomedicineWORKING HYPOTHESIS:The extract of Ps can stimulate the hypothalamus pituitary thyroid axis due to its phytoestrogenic action during the reproductive process in the female.MATERIALS AND METHODSAnimal model: adult female mice of BALB/c strain raised in the animal facility of IMBECU. Group of eight females will be treated by oral administration of aqueous extract of Ps in the drinking water (30%) and a control group will be administered on tap water to evaluate its potencial as thyroid mimetic. Cell Culture: To evalua the in vitro effect as phytoestrogen of Ps it will be use the endometrial human cáncer cell line ECC-1.EXPERIMENTS1- Evaluate the effect of Ps as endocrine modulator, by the biochemical and histological evaluation of the thyroid axis in mice. 2-Characterize the levels of pituitary TSH BALB/C females treated with the aqueous extract of Ps. 3-Analyze the phytoestrogenic action of the aqueous extract of Ps in vitro.EXPECTED RESULTSIt is desirible to demonstrate that the aqueous extract of Ps in the appropiate dosis can be used as therapeutic agent without inducing toxic effect on the reproductive axis in the female. Besides, to elucidate the possible use of the natural extract as a complement for the treatmen of hypothyroidism.TRANSFER OF RESULTS AND RECIPIENTSThe transfer of outcomes is intended for the cientific community throughout the presentation and publication or the results. The present project also involves the mentoring of graduate and postgraduate studients. The health scientific community will be increased their knowledge on the effect of native plant extract of Mendoza province folklorically used as alternative medicine. The discovery of new bioactive compound for the treatment of cancer obtain from native plants may be used as therapeutic with a direct impact in our region or at national level
