Sumario:It is proposed to initiate the theoretical and experimental study of an important family of emitters and detectors of infrared radiation based on quantum cascades of inter-subband transitions, with an outlook into the development of devices in the long term. Of little development in the country, this subject is of great current relevance given the important technological applications of the electromagnetic spectrum between 1 and 30 um (telecommunications, thermography, isotopic separation, detection of pollutants). In particular, it will be required the adaptation of published simulation models, proposing improvements both in their theoretical foundations and in their numerical implementation. Basic experimental techniques of optical characterization (emission and absorption) and electronics (current-voltage) will be implemented, both in the spectral and temporal domain. The minimum objective at the end of the first two years will be the ability to predict and characterize the properties of simple inter-subband systems formed by coupled quantum wells.
