Sumario:Alcohol consumption by college students is a public health concern as it often results in impaired physical and mental health accompanied with diminished cognitive abilities and thus poor academic performance, depression, and dropout. The purpose of this research is to assess the drinking patterns of freshmen students that can guide the design of university prevention policies. Data of 2019 Encuesta sobre hábitos de consumo de estudiantes universitarios of Facultad de Ciencias Económicas, Universidad Nacional de Cuyo is used. The choice of alcohol consumption, the quantity consumed and the frequency of consumption are studied. More than 95% of the students have consumed alcohol once in their lives, and 74% have done so in the last thirty days; 94% of the cohort habitually drink more than 3 standard drinks; and 64% of it consume more than twice a month. The decision about consuming alcohol or not, the quantity consumed and the frequency of consumption are all positively associated with age, concurrent consumption of marijuana and simultaneous consumption of energy drinks. On the contrary, these variables are negatively associated with age of onset and accurate risk perceptions, ceteris paribus.
