Sumario: | Bruxism is a chewing muscle activity of multifactorial etiology since, although the origin is central, it is influenced or perpetuated by various factors and may present associated comorbidities such as sleep disorders and respiratory disturbances during sleep.
Bruxism per se is currently not considered to be a pathology but rather a behavior in healthy people, potentially being a risk factor and / or progressing to a disorder.
According to its circadian manifestation, it is classified as sleep bruxism (BS) or wakeful bruxism (BV) and they have different etiopathogenic mechanisms.
It can also be divided into primary bruxism or secondary bruxism depending on whether or not it is associated with other pathologies.
The therapeutic options for the approach to bruxism in children and adolescents are variable, but there is consensus to focus on the early detection of risk factors, patient education and treatment choice, evaluatin. |
