Sumario:Few objects are there in Social Sciences as hard of analyze as «ideology». It refers to the relationships between knowledge and reality and places us in the field of the representations that human beings make of themselves and their relationships with the world. Men, as long as their subjectiveness is constructed, do not observe, analyze or experience reality directly, but through complex mediations. An important part of them is «ideology». To add a new problematic element, it is considered that ideology in not only the filter trough which we learn and give significates to reality, but also that it works to produce, either its conservation or its transformation. Which implies that the clear separation between object and subject tends to become lighter. Beyond the difficulties that the evanescence of the objecto carries, its conceptualization is indispensable to complete any analysis of social reality and its changes. This article intents to make a synthesis of the course that the formulation of the concept has followed within the bounderies of marxist theory (where the most sustantive debate had taken place). The issue that will conduct the analysis is the two main currents into which the definition of ideology are divided: false conscience or cosmogony.
