Sumario:Even though the publishing industry has gone through important transformations with the arrival of new technologies both in publishing and authorial production, this article looks into the new characteristics present in reading practices from that moment on. We propose an analysis of reading practices with regards to the new publishing scenario, marked by a recurrent consideration of the “publishing know‐how”, the editor’s role, other publishing agents’ functions, and supports and formats’ validity. The first part of the paper offers a synthetic description of the publishing industry’s functioning. The second part centres the attention in the actual transformations occurred in the book industry as a consequence of new technologies’ advent. The third part presents a brief account on reading practices in the digital age and finally we develop some features and trends in reading on electronic supports in Argentina, United States and Spain. The paper closes with some conclusions.
