Sumario: | From his first published novel (Barbarie, 1927), Mendocinian novelist Carlos Alberto Arroyo forms part of a specially relevant line in our provincia literature: that which has a political intention, nurtured by the complexities of local history; so much so that a vast part of his work could be called "the Mendocinian Lencinist Saga. " The events narrated in La furia de los vencidos deal with the 1930 Revolution and its repercussions in the Mendocinian political circle, especially in a traditional fami/y, the Ansavs, whose house is the scene for much of the action. Various spatial polarities inscribed in the descriptive passages underline the symbolic value of the house as the main setting foraction in La furia de los vencidos: the verticality created through the concept of "class" as the directing stratum of society, supported by its political power; the dialectics between "inside" and "outside", i.e., family intimacy opposed to the space of political action, and the idea of closure, evident in the construction of a domestic space associated to femininity hortus conclusus described through traditional topica- are other equivalences to the characters' actions, subjected to a context of social transformation which affects decisively their fate. |
