Sumario:This paper presents the first results of the systematic excavation carried out at the location of the Church of San Francisco in Penco, which remained located in this sector for almost 200 years. After the surveys of 2018 that gave the first indications of its discovery, we deliver new data on the nature of the findings, which are matched with the historical documentary information collected on this ecclesiastical building. The different cultural and natural processes that configured the stratigraphic distribution of the findings and the sector that would be demarcated by the presence of architectural features are discussed, which leads us to conclude that the excavated and described context would indeed be this historic church.
