Since the beginning of the archaeological discipline in northwestern Argentina, drawing has been an integral part of disseminating and understanding of the past. It is still important today, despite the development of new technologies in graphic representation. This paper focuses on the analysis of the modes of graphic representation of metallurgical ceramics, which are involved in producing metal objects. These ceramics are one of the most prominent types of evidence about metallurgical activity but are usually highly fragmented in the archaeological record. An adequate way of presenting them is a fundamental issue in communicating the object of analysis, heritage conservation, and strengthening comparative analyses. After tracing the historical trajectory of the graphic representations of this category of objects in the development of the discipline in Argentina, this paper seeks to create a space for reflection on the most appropriate modes of its representation. It also discusses the limitations and potential of drawing and various photographic options. The possibilities offered by photogrammetry in the study of metallurgical ceramics are discussed. In view of the analyzed cases, it is concluded that while drawing is ideal for representing the shape and dimensions of these ceramics, photography is ideal for appreciating their history of production and use. Photogrammetry can make an important complementary contribution to drawing and photography since it makes it possible to create high-quality, scaled, three-dimensional images. |

El dibujo ha sido desde el inicio de la disciplina arqueológica parte integral de la difusión y la comprensión del pasado del noroeste argentino. Su importancia se mantiene hasta hoy día, a pesar del avance de nuevas tecnologías de registro gráfico. Este trabajo se centra en el análisis de los modos de representación gráfica de las cerámicas involucradas en la elaboración de objetos metálicos. Las mismas son una de las evidencias más notables acerca de la actividad metalúrgica, pero en el registro arqueológico en forma usual se las encuentra altamente fragmentadas por lo que un adecuado modo de presentación es clave como instancia fundamental de comunicación del objeto en sí, conservación patrimonial y consolidación del análisis comparativo. Después de trazar la trayectoria histórica de las representaciones gráficas de este tipo de objetos en el desarrollo de la disciplina en el país, se busca generar un espacio de reflexión acerca de los modos más idóneos de su representación, contrastando también limitaciones y potencialidades del dibujo frente a la multiplicidad de opciones de la fotografía. Asimismo, se discuten las posibilidades que ofrece la fotogrametría en el estudio de las cerámicas metalúrgicas. Frente a los casos analizados se concluye que mientras el dibujo es ideal para representar forma y dimensiones de estas cerámicas, la fotografía lo es para apreciar su historia de producción y uso. Por su parte, la fotogrametría puede hacer un importante aporte de complementariedad al dibujo y la fotografía ya que permite crear imágenes tridimensionales escaladas de alta calidad.
