Sumario: | The axial objective of this article is to examine the appropriations and readaptations that the oriental artist Juan Manuel Blanes tried in his work An episode of the yellow fever epidemic, to represent the terrible effects of the epidemic that devastated the city of Buenos Aires in 1871 .To do this, based on the Warburgian method, we will first analyze the meaning that aesthetic and rhetorical expressions of the "mother-child pair" have had in epidemic contexts. Secondly, we will examine how the representation of the «martyrdom» of those who intervene to assist those afflicted by the plague went through a process of secularization in the West. |
