Descripción
Sumario:This article analyzes trade of Classical Antiquity reductions during the first decades of the 20th century in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As case study, Venus de Milo is analyzed due to its popularity in the commercialization of its reductions and its prolific appearance in written and visual sources of the time. Firstly, sales strategies based on the import and local production of small Venus’ statues are examined. Later, the features of its consumers are investigated. It is argued that there is a difference in consumption: one of "good taste" due to its insertion and link with the artistic field, and another of "bad taste" guided by ostentation.
