Sumario:The article analyzes the trajectory of a series of files for cases of enforced disappearances and torture initiated in the federal justice of Viedma during 1985 and the disputes that the city court gave to investigate. Focused on a territory far from the big cities but that was strategic for the government of Raúl Alfonsín, this small-scale study aims to contribute to the conceptualization of the uncertain, undefined and disputed aspects of the transitional context, and highlight the central role that they had certain local actors to guarantee justice, as was the case of the federal judge Juan Pablo Videla, the human rights organizations of the province and a group of victims of the capital of Río Negro. The hypothesis is that judge Videla, related to the region’s humanitarian movement, upheld to the misgivings and fears that existed in this sector due to the problem of the jurisdiction of military courts to prosecute those responsible for violations of the human rights and vehiculated his expectations of justice by tightening the limits of the national executive’s agenda and the legislation established for the subject.
