Sumario:This work addresses the territorial dynamics of the city of San Luis, between its incorporation to the rioplatense revolutionary process and the configuration of the province of the same name at the beginning of 1820. This process is evidence of a people that, strengthened in its right to self-government, was shaping a sovereignty that did not contradict its will to avoid the risk of disintegration. The question is, under what terms and under what conditions. In order to answer this question, throughout this paper we delve into the political and economic foundations guiding to four decisive instances: the recognition of the Primera Junta; the representation in the Junta Grande; the mandate to the representative to the Asamblea del año XIII, and the segregation of the governorship of Cuyo. For its analysis we resorted to varied published documentary sources, as well as to unpublished documentation from the General Archive of the Nation. From their interpretation we verify the material demands that conditioned it, as well as the aspirations of self-government that sustained it.
