To this end, we will explore the different productive trials that were implemented, the new attention paid to sugar by-products (particularly residual molasses for the manufacture of different types of alcohols and bagasse for the production of cellulose pulp and paper). We will also explore the joint actions carried out between the private sector and scientificinstitutions such as the Agricultural Experimental Station of Tucumán. Keywords: sugar, by-products, regional economy, innovation Nos proponemos analizar el desenvolvimiento del sector azucarero tucumano entre la década de 1920 y los primeros años de 1940. El foco estará puesto en las estrategias empresariales desplegadas por los industriales azucareros para sobrellevar una coyuntura adversa signada por las disputas internas del sector, el exceso de producción y las regulaciones a la actividad. Para esto, exploraremos los diferentes ensayos productivos que se implementaron, la nueva atención prestada a los subproductos del azúcar (particularmente, la melaza residual para la fabricación de diferentes tipos de alcoholes y el bagazo para la elaboración de pasta de celulosa y papel). Asimismo, indagaremos sobre las acciones conjuntas llevadas a cabo entre el sector privado y las instituciones científicas como la Estación Experimental Agrícola de Tucumán.
