Trying to reverse this situation, we have designed and implemented a complementary didactic strategy on the subject, as a workshop, for a voluntary group of students. Theoretical aspects were reviewed with emphasis on real and virtual laboratory experiences, and problem solving. The answers to a problem to be developed on the topic “electrical transformers” provided by the attending students were compared with those given by other students who did not participate in the workshop. To establish the comparison, sample descriptive measures were analyzed and non-parametric tests were performed. The descriptive measures indicated in all the questions more correct answers from the students who attended the workshop, regarding those who did not. However, it is not possible, in general, to make population inferences regarding the difference in the responses of both groups. Estudiantes universitarios de Física básica manifiestan dificultades para aprender conceptos elementales de corriente alterna y sus relaciones, en particular los vinculados a fenómenos de inducción electromagnética. Buscando revertir esta situación se diseñó e implementó una estrategia didáctica complementaria sobre el tema, a modo de taller, para un grupo voluntario de estudiantes. Se revisaron aspectos teóricos con énfasis en experiencias de laboratorio real y virtual, y en la resolución de problemas. Las respuestas a un problema a desarrollar sobre el tema “transformadores eléctricos” brindadas por los alumnos asistentes se compararon con las dadas por otros estudiantes que no participaron en el taller. Para establecer la comparación se analizaron medidas descriptivas muestrales y se realizaron test no paramétricos. Las medidas descriptivas indicaron en todas las preguntas respuestas más acertadas de parte de los alumnos que asistieron al taller, respecto a quienes no lo hicieron. Sin embargo no es posible, en general, hacer inferencias poblacionales respecto a la diferencia en las respuestas de ambos grupos.
