Sumario: | A material was synthesized by sulfating zirconia and doped with aluminum by a solvent-free method. The material (SZ-Al) was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was used in the esterification reaction of lauric acid (C12H24O2, AL) and capric acid (C10H20O2, AC), evaluating its potential as a catalyst for biodiesel synthesis. These results were compared with homogeneous catalysis in the presence of Al2(SO4)3 and the catalytic activity of the support (Z), sulfated zirconia (SZ) and calcined aluminum sulfate (cAl). The stability of the materials was analyzed in terms of activity towards different successive cycles of use. Subsequently, the activation energy of SZ-Al in the esterification of AL was determined. |
