Sumario:The present paper attempts to account for the link established between the Platonic notions of analogy and science through the metaphysical concept of participation. To account for this, it will be shown that analogy in Plato does not have a simple descriptive, narrative or explanatory function lato sensu, but that the master of the Academy will use it in a metaphysical sense per se loquendo, since what he will seek with the recourse to analogy is to have science (universal, necessary and rational knowledge of the real) of various issues (anthropological, ethical, political, metaphysical, etc.) that are presented as essential to Platonic philosophy.
