Sumario:The article outlines some fundamental milestones in the development of the social sciences in the twentieth century that gave rise to an interest in ordinary lives, in dispute with the privilege of attention then granted to elites and great figures. So an epistemological framework is configured that welcomes the study of individuals and subordinate social groups in modernity, endowed with a new arsenal of methods and techniques based on oral testimonies and personal documents. By following this route, conditioned by the multiple contributions of the cultural sciences, literature, the systematization of pedagogical thought and the diverse global historical experience, the conditions for the emergence of the narrative biographical paradigm in education are understood.
