Sumario:The present work exposes the notion of person of Tomás de Aquino at the same time that he takes charge of the criticism coming from personalistic environments to the classic notion of person that Aquinas defends. According to Thomas Aquinas, affirming the subsistence of the person supposes that he is a subject that subsists by himself. Now, this affirmation does not imply that it is not oriented to develop and perfect itself through its free activity from its faculties, which express and manifest its act of being. For Aquinas, the foundation of the development of the person is that he has a rational nature infinitely open to everything that is. And from this nature any type of development and improvement is possible.
