We propose that based upon the exploration of a saddened self because of an undone "promise of happiness", the writing style shapes an aesthetic of the remoteness of what is desired, which expressed through images of desolation, exposes the most intimate aspects of the characters and the events. The tone of the narration produces a dense atmosphere: inhabited by the remoteness of desire and the escape of beauty. The places, the time, the topic, the turns of language are constituted as the symbolic epicenter of who possesses nothing, but risks everything in pursuit of that something that will distance him from the dread of routine. The aesthetics of the frustrated desire means the loss of the ability to produce a future and, at the same time, it explores the unhappy state of the alienated subject who does not stop dreaming, although dreams turn into horror or nightmare. Se propone la idea de (in)felicidad como principio estético que define los elementos compositivos de la novela La perra, de Pilar Quintana. Planteamos que a partir de la indagación de un yo entristecido a causa de una "promesa de felicidad" deshecha, la escritura da forma a una estética de la lejanía de lo deseado, que manifiesta en imágenes de la desolación expone lo más íntimo de los personajes y los sucesos. El tono de la narración produce una atmósfera densa: habitada por el alejamiento del deseo y la huida de lo bello. Los lugares, el tiempo, el tema, los giros del lenguaje se constituyen como epicentro simbólico de quien nada tiene, pero que arriesga todo en la búsqueda de aquello que lo extravíe del tormento de lo cotidiano. La estética del deseo frustrado significa la pérdida de la capacidad de producir un futuro y, a su vez, indaga el estado infeliz del sujeto alienado que no deja de soñar, así los sueños muden en horror o pesadilla.
