The period of his rule was marked by the rise of Artigas in the Banda Oriental, which raised a number of challenges for Portuguese and Luso-Brazilian elites established in Rio Grande de São Pedro. After the transfer of the Court of King João to Brazil in 1808, the Lusitanian revalued the importance of the captaincy of Rio Grande do Sul because of its border enclave and importance to the expansionist policy in the region cisplatin. In this paper, we address concerns related to the portuguese intervention in the Banda Oriental in 1811-1812, which had as one of hisexecutors the governor said. We also investigate, albeit incidental, the increased slave trade to the captaincy of Rio Grande and into the region cisplatin region, which seems to have energized during the administration of Don Diogo de Souza. Don Diogo Martim de Souza Teles de Menezes, gobernador y capitán general de la capitanía del Sur entre 1809 y 1814, administró una frontera que entraría en convulsión tras los sucesos de mayo de 1810. El período de su gobierno estuvo marcado por el ascenso del artiguismo en la Banda Oriental, lo que planteó una serie de desafíos para los gobernantes portugueses y las elites luso-brasileñas establecidos en Rio Grande de São Pedro. Luego de la transferencia de la Corte de Don João a Brasil en 1808, los lusitanos revalorizaron la capitanía de Rio Grande do Sul debido a su enclave fronterizo de especial importancia para la política expansionista en la región cisplatina. En este texto, vamos a abordar los intereses relacionados a la intervención lusitana en la Banda Orientalen 1811-1812, que tuvo como uno de sus ejecutores al gobernador mencionado. Investigamos también, aunque de forma incidental, el incremento del tráfico de esclavos hacia la capitanía de Rio Grande y hacia la región cisplatina, que parece haberse dinamizado durante el período de la administración de Don Diogo de Souza.
