Sumario:The essay is dedicated to the life and work of Janusz Korczak (1878–1942), a Jewish-Polish pediatrician, pedagogue and novelist. On the basis of the diaries written by Korczak in his youth and in the months before his murder in the Treblinka extermination camp, the authors discuss how Korczak could withstand the extreme stresses of his life and produce an unprecedented educational and literary work. The biographical essay focuses on the question of the extent to which the concept of resilience is suitable for understanding Korczak’s life and how this concept itself needs to be reconsidered.
