Sumario:This article approach and analyzes a corpus of narrative texts that, published between the 50s and 80s of the last century by authors from Mendoza, locate writing in the desert areas that spread throughout Cuyo region. The objective is to investigate how they build different scenarios and imaginaries about the space of crossings and its inhabitants, what intentions –political and poetic– they pursue and what sensibilities they forge about the human landscape of the region. Despite the compositional differences and aesthetic choices, there is a shared disenchantment for a modernization that not only does not reach everywhere, but also produces and deepens inequalities.
