Sumario:This work will attempt to make a contribution to the analysis of the crisis of the Roman Republic in the first century a. C.; through the vision that the author Gayo Salustio Crispo has left on this period, in his work (Historia de la) "Guerra de Jugurta". In this opportunity we will focus our analysis on Mario’s speech to the comitia after obtaining the consulte, during the march on Africa, to end the war against the numidian Jugurta. The analysis will seek to investigate the intentionality of Mario’s comments, the view offered by the traditional nobility, the homines novi, the views about the crisis that affected the late Roman republic and the solution that slides for it. Likewise, we will look for the philosophical aspects that could exist in the discourse and allow us to identify the author in some of the schools of his time such as Latin epicureanism and Stoicism. We will address this speech since it can be identified as a turning point within the work. The interpretation of this work the context of Sallust and his interlocutors, will allow us to recognize the vision and particular interests of Salustio in the political / ideological context of the late republican time.
