Sumario:The present essay seeks to contribute to the problematic of history examined on the light of the challenges of the "Epistemologies of the South". In this sense, the main representative of this current points out that modernity has placed a kind of monoculture of time. In order to leave this epistemic and practical crossroads, Boaventura de Sousa Santos propose a sociology of absences and emergencies precedes theoretically by the concept of possibility. In this sense, we will inquire on Xavier Zubiri's philosophy, fundamentally on his proposal of a new "formal" structure of history, for having a very useful conceptual wealth for these challenges. It will examine, on the one hand, the convergent concerns with Santos about the conceptions of historical time. Then, their ability to disarticulate certain aporias in the traditional conceptions of the philosophy of history that were a source of misunderstanding to understand socio-historical processes, fact that has a decisive impact on the Epistemologies of the South. Finally, seen the theoretical virtual strengths for a sociology of emergencies and absences.
