Sumario:Summary. Historiography achieved prestige in Enlightenment, in what was probably a world phaenomenon. It can be observed also in the Iberian Peninsula and its American territories. In the latter was developed, during the 18th century, a wider attention to historical subjects, a better consideration of historiography as a discipline formative of personality and important for the understanding of the world, and a historical approach to philosophical and theological subjects. Those developments continued after and they explain the historiocentric focus of Latin American thought until our days.
