Descripción
Sumario:This paper reviews the historical origins of the “San Martín General” Public Library, created at the beginning of the 19th century in the city of Mendoza, Argentina. In particular, attention is paid to its relationship with the formation of enlightened societies that act during the gestation and achievement of the independence processes in the Hispanic American sphere. This type of associations tended to the political, economic and cultural regeneration of the traditional societies that came from the colonial regime, through the diffusion of knowledge, the extension of education and public access to innovative knowledge. In this sense, different historiographical interpretations of the incidence of the ideas of the Enlightenment in the Spanish-American revolutionary movements are examined.
