Sumario:In the last decades, the intermediate cities in the Argentine Republic have undergone the major transformations related to changes in land use, with Córdoba being one of the most populated provinces, therefore it is important to analyze their territorial construction. The suburban area, understood as a zone of urban-rural transition, is a vital space in terms of the sustainability of intermediate cities and their livestock farming circuits. However, its uniqueness has not been contemplated by local regulations; such as what happened with the periurban of the city of Villa María, who did not contemplate the regulation of rural activities carried out in their municipal radio. Since most of the theories have been developed around large cities, without challenging their schematization; The aim is to conceptualize the periurban based on the characterizations of an intermediate city, with the development of an environmental quality indicator to highlight the existing relationships between periurban agricultural land uses and environmental services. The analysis of the periurban villamariense allowed to outline a conceptualization crossed by local cultural socio-economic structures, immersed in a physical-natural system that defines it.
