Sumario:This article tackles the task of illustrating and reflecting upon the complex constitution of "the urban" stemming from the conceptual distinction between urbanites and citizens. The rigorous characterization of the inhabitants of a city takes special meaning in a "theory of inhabiting" that offers new perspectives on the subject matter. From specific applied reflection upon the gap that sets urbanites and citizens apart, we can outline new pathways that might lead to the collection of contributions both varied and concurrent of the human urban geography, the social history of "the city" and the role that the architectural identity plays in those who inhabit even a city in a process of dissolution into an extensive and inhuman urbanization
