Sumario: | Max Aub published in the mid-sixties, in Spain and Mexico, a literary essay titled ‘Hércules y Don Juan’. In it, Aub offers a comparative view between both figures and supports the hypothesis that Hercules is the antecedent of Don Juan. This paper gathers, in the first place, the comparative arguments exposed by the exiled author in the essay, as well as his ideas about the figure of Don Juan. It also offers a study of the changes between the different versions, comparing those published in Spain in 1964 and 1967 with that published in Mexico in 1965; and, finally, it follows the editorial efforts (some failed) for publication through Max Aub’s collected letters. |
