The objectives of the work are: to investigate if there are linguistic differences in phonological awareness skills such as: identification of rhyme and initial phoneme, segmentation of syllables in words and integration of sounds, in children of Initial Level of the province of Mendoza, of urban public gardens (U) and urban marginal gardens (UM), and determine if the origin of these differences are due to the socio-environmental variables, educational level (NE) and socioeconomic level (SES) of the household. During the school year (2016), 170 schoolchildren aged 4 and 5, of both sexes, from U (n = 83) and UM (n = 87) kindergartens were evaluated. The NE of the parents was calculated according to data from the school records and the SES according to data from INDEC 2008. The ANOVA showed, on the one hand, a significant effect of age on the phonological awareness skills evaluated, the 5-year-old children having a response level higher than 4-year-olds. And on the other hand, for both socio-environmental variables a significant effect of the area of origin was observed: the NE of children who attend U Gardens was higher than that of children who attend UM gardens; in addition, the SES of children from U gardens was higher than that of children from UM gardens. Estudios que analizan las diferencias lingüísticas relativas al proceso de alfabetización en escolares provenientes de distintos entornos socioeconómicos sugieren que estas diferencias están relacionadas con el nivel de alfabetización del entorno familiar y social en el que crecen (Borzone et al. 2005). Los objetivos del trabajo son indagar si existen diferencias lingüísticas en las habilidades de conciencia fonológica de identificación de rima y fonema inicial, segmentación de sílabas e integración de sonidos, en niños de Nivel Inicial de la provincia de Mendoza de distintos entornos socioeconómicos y determinar si las mismas se originan en las variables socioambientales nivel educativo (NE) y nivel socioeconómico (NSE) del hogar. Se evaluaron durante un ciclo lectivo 170 niños de 4 y de 5 años de jardines urbanos (U) (n=83) y jardines urbano-marginales (UM) (n=87). El NE de los padres se calculó según datos de los registros escolares y el NSE según datos del INDEC 2008. Los análisis de varianza mostraron, por un lado, un efecto significativo de la edad en las habilidades de conciencia fonológica evaluadas, dado que los niños de 5 años evidenciaron un nivel de respuesta superior a la de los niños de 4 años. Y, por otro lado, en ambas variables socioambientales se observó un efecto significativo de la zona de procedencia: el NE de niños que asisten a Jardines U fue superior al de los niños que asisten a jardines UM; y también el NSE de niños provenientes de jardines U fue superior al de los niños provenientes de jardines UM.
