| Sumario: | This article clarifies, firstly, that the “compendium of Tarahumara and Guazapares language”, written by Thomas de Guadalaxara and published in 1683, of which we know only the five grammar books, not only consisted of “poetry, Tarahumara and Spanish vocabulary, but also of a kinship terms glossary”, as has been stated. Secondly, it is also made clear that the mentioned compendium also contained an extensive Christian doctrine (catechism, confessional, talks on the sacraments, etc.) as reviewers pointed out. In addition, through a comparative work and the handling of some primary and secondary sources related with this and the “compendium for intelligence for the Tarahumara language”, published in 1826 by Fray Miguel Tellechea, the author concludes that the “Christian doctrine and talks” written in Tarahumar and Spanish, contained in the seventeenth century document, the whereabouts of which we do not know, can be found most likely intact, in the 19th century compendium. |
