Therefore, his philosophy was seen as "new" by those who did not feel concerned by this innovative way of thinking. El renovado interés por la naturaleza, considerada desde la razón y no desde una visión simbólica, fue uno de los factores importantes que hizo posible el desarrollo del pensamiento filosófico en el siglo XII. La nueva perspectiva que se abría tuvo en Guillermo de Conches a uno de los pensadores que más contribuyó a su desarrollo. Por eso, su filosofía fue vista como "nueva" por quienes no se sentían concernidos por esta innovadora manera de pensar.
