Sumario: | I propose to summarize two models of anthropocentrism. One of them, which I have called "mid-scale anthropocentrism", alludes, in broad strokes, to the apparently predominant position of the human in ancient and medieval thought. The models of this anthropocentrism are Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas. I have called the other model "concentric anthropocentrism"; here human affairs occupy a centrality of different characteristics compared with the previous one. It is the apparently predominant model in modern thought, and its development can be traced back to Pico della Mirandola and Kant. I have tried to sketch political consequences of both models. |
