Sumario:This paper applies a new characterization of conservative thought to the work of Edmund Burke. To this end, it criticizes the assimilation between conservatives and the rejection of change. Then, in the second part, the concept of substantive conservatism is proposed to describe the conservative current. Finally, the third part uses the above conceptual apparatus to analyze Edmund Burke's Reflections on the Revolution in France, the founding work of conservatism. It is concluded that the definition is relevant to characterize the author and that, therefore, it has the heuristic capacity to be extrapolated to other thinkers.
