Sumario:This research seeks to analyze the treatment and approach carried out by the media, specifically the newspaper El Universo, on cases of femicide/feminicide in Ecuador. A content analysis of 15 randomly selected cases was carried out, out of the 30 cases found in the newspaper in relation to the 88 identified by the national police, following the Comprehensive Organic Penal Code (COIP). For the analysis, use was made of the error categories, created by Chilean researchers Ananías Soto and Vergara Sanchez (2016), who were able to determine the most common errors at the time of making a news story about cases of femicide / feminicide. Among the cases selected for the study, the errors that stood out were sensationalism, morbidity, and lack of contextualization. Based on the category of error used in the investigation and the results obtained, most journalists have limited general knowledge about issues related to gender violence, femicide/ feminicide and this causes them not to develop journalistic notes with perspective of genre.
