Sumario: | What were the contributions of the Associação dos Diplomados da Escola Superior de Guerra (ADESG) for the control of higher education during the Military Dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1988)? This reflection is based on the theoretical perspectives of the studies of social control (Cohen, Garland, Deflem, Alvarez) and of historiography references on the Brazilian military dictatorship (Fernandes, Dreifuss, Alves, Fontes, Lemos, Codato). Documents from ADESG courses, activities and policies were used, analyzed in a critical, comparative and systematic way (Rüsen; Thuillier and Tulard), according to the methodological principles of totality (Goldman) and epistemological curiosity (Freire). It is an unpublished and original contribution, based on reference research. Higher education, a priority in ADESG’s attempts at ideological influence, was also an important social segment for recruitment. The association had, in that period, five professors as national presidents. Professors, students, and civil and military agents of social control over higher education participated in its activities. It is possible to identify, since 1964, based on the case of Rio Grande do Sul, a significant growth in the activities and complexity of the organization and support from the mainstream press and official propaganda organizations such as Agência Nacional. |
