Sumario:The research delves into the formation of institutional spaces within the Argentine state administration for the organization and management of port activity in Buenos Aires, from the inauguration of Puerto Madero to its institutional centralization with the creation of the General Administration of Ports in Buenos Aires. 1858. This issue, rarely covered by historiography, allows us to observe the existing tensions between the port and customs space, and to specify the different institutional stages acquired; aspects that emerge as relevant for the analysis and understanding of the evolution of the Argentine port system, and the policies implemented at the national level in this regard by successive governments. As sources, official government documentation between 1890 and 1960 is mainly used.
