The study found that HR groups that focus on 'time to fill' as a measure of performance have higher first-year separation rates. Companies with higher average tenures are found to have longer time to fill and companies with a higher percentage of employees more than 50 years old have lower offer acceptance rates. Many senior employees are found to be postponing retirement trying to rebuild their retirement funds and waiting for the economy to stabilize. The knowledge management techniques used by companies include mentoring, after-action reviews, expert training, lessons learned, and communities of practice. Companies need to be cognizant of the balance between a desire for a more diverse workforce and HR recruiting metrics such as time to fill.
