Sumario:By 1900 a vast colony of living American writers in Paris, attracted by the great metropolis, and attracted because they saw in it a chance to live letters, letters crossed -some of them passionate- with the Spanish writers who professed a deep rejection French symbolism products whose most recent tradition-up imitation American modernism had positioned. The center of this dispute with Latin American Unamuno was his choice of France as its intellectual source. Caused his Gallophobia did fight misguardises Gallicisms presents in spanish american letters and declare him deeply misógalo, against all things French. His rejection of the French whom he judged admirably equipped for science but not for art born of involvement he saw in past aesthetic productions. In the letters written between 1900 and 1904 that was crossing with American intellectuals, Unamuno not fail to insist on the need to abandon the seduction for all French and explore the genuine sources of the Latin and American tradition. In particular, in his letters Ruben Dario discuses with Unamuno defending the Francophone tradition and the centrality of Paris he occupied the Americanists letters, was the sad result of neglect and lack of editors and Spanish cultural press, mainly residents of Madrid, by the news of the Latin American literature. However, Dario will not fail to see Unamuno as one of the greatest references of Spanish-speaking letters, and name it "spiritual leader" of his generation. In this direction the Spanish writer, now in its critical function, try to redirect their younger partners to Spanish letters within the Latin American tradition, exploring its continental constituent bases, which could not deny the metropolitan sources of the Latin American tradition.
