In this way, important varieties of different meals are described; especially the more copious -the cena- in a gradation from the simplest to the most complex. We are allowed then to know the horacian taste on this issue, consistent with his ideal of frugalitas and aurea mediocritas in others aspects of life.
Horacio, quien en sus Sátiras y Epístolas concede amplio espacio a personajes y situaciones de la vida cotidiana romana de finales del s. 1 a. C., documenta, integrándose en una antigua tradición de tratados de gastronomía en verso, las diversas tipologías de la comida diaria: platos frugales (Sat. 2,2), o más refinados ( Sat. 2,4) y hasta banquetes trimalciónicos (Sat. 2, 8) junto con hábitos culinarios del campo opuestos a los de la ciudad; es decir, una importante variedad culinaria descrita en las distintas comidas del día, especialmente la más copiosa, la cena, en una gradación de lo simple a lo complejo que permite conocer un gusto horaciano sobre los modos de alimentación coherente con su ideal de frugalitas y de aurea mediocritas en otros aspectos de la vida.
