Sumario:Critical extension emphasizes the priority of ensuring that university graduates have the knowledge, abilities, skills, and technical and human abilities to contribute to the resolution of socio-cultural problems in the most active, fair, critical, and transformative way possible. From a qualitative exploration, based on the capabilities approach and critical extension, the case study of the National University of Rosario, Argentina, shows that the student is able to place value on the capabilities achieved in their university training derived from extension practices. The students reported the strengthening of six human and professional skills, aligned with human development, which are useful for a professionalism that aspires to contribute to more just and democratic social transformations, in favor of the defense of life and the planet. This result points, on the one hand, to the potential of critical extension in integral university education and, on the other, to the need to move towards an institutional framework centered on such student capacities, as strategic components for a new Latin American university agenda.
