Sumario: | In 1856, the Brazilian poet Gonçalves de Magalhães published his epic poem A confederação dos Tamoios which received a negative appraisal by the future author of O guarani, José de Alencar. This criticism resulted in a huge polemic and, in Argentina, Juan María Gutiérrez wrote a study about the poem in El Orden (1857) of Buenos Aires and later in Revista del Rio de la Plata (1872). His essay received an answer by Magalhães who wrote a letter to his Argentina colleague and, for the first time, after the criticism, commented about his poetic composition. |
