This essay examines some of the parameters of Rosenthal’s work that has had so much resonance in the history of Brazilian photography. Hildegard Rosenthal (1913-1990) hizo el primer relevamiento fotográfico sistématico de São Paulo a fines de la década del treinta y comienzos del cuarenta. Representa a un extenso grupo de fotógrafos de origen europeo (en gran parte, judíos) que "descubrieron" la ciudad de São Paulo, en particular en el período del auge del proyecto de modernidad que se estaba afirmando en dicha urbe. Este ensayo examina algunos de los parámetros del trabajo de Rosenthal que tiene tanta resonancia en la historia de la fotografía brasileña.
