Sumario:This paper systematizes some of the topics and discussions present in youth studies in the second half of the 20th century, especially those that focus on cultural practices linked to music in relation to identification processes. To do this, part of the pioneering contributions made by the Birmingham School in England from the mid-60s and those from Latin America are reviewed, mainly from the 90s onwards.   It is essential to approach the contexts and commitments that underlie these studies, as a way of reviewing analytical perspectives on youth practices that are intertwined with cultural consumption and collective experiences. These are concerns that are based on the crossroads between cultural studies and youth studies based on the contributions offered by sociology to address aggregation and recognition phenomena.
